Nikita Iman: An Exclusive Interview

Nikita Iman, this season’s queen of shade, was sent home during episode seven of Drag Race Down Under – season four.

Unfortunately, the Sydney-based, Auckland drag performer landed in the bottom during this week’s Maxi challenge, a roast of comedian and Drag Race Down Under judge Rhys Nicholson.

Nikita Iman found herself lip-syncing against Mandy Moobs. In the end, Vybe won the challenge, making it into the top four along with Mandy Moobs, Lazy Susan, and Freya Armani.

Outside of Drag Race Down Under, Nikita Iman is a staple of the ballroom scene (a member of House Of IMAN) where she first won the ‘Face’ category. (The Face category focuses on the natural beauty of a participant’s facial features.)

In an interview with Gay Sydney Australia, Nikita, 27, (in as few words as possible) revealed the origin of her drag name, her choice for the shadiest queen on the cast, her first time in drag, and her first love (It’s not drag).

How was the experience of being on Drag Race Down Under? How does it feel to have made it onto the show?

It was AMAZING!!! So proud of myself for applying for the show and for making it this far.

How has the experience of being on Drag Race Down Under changed you?

Being on the show has given me the confidence to stand in my own artistry. It has allowed me to believe in myself and has pushed me as a drag artist and person.

Who was the shadiest queen on set? Details?

Probably Vybe.  She just always has something to say.

What is the origin of your drag name?

I used to watch this spy series called “Nikita” who is played by Maggy Q. I love this series!

What was your first time in drag like?

It was for a friend’s house party. I was very nervous but I loved it. I felt so pretty in my shake-n-go wig and wobbly heels.

Is there anything about you that people are surprised to learn?

I am a qualified Chef, food will always be my first love.

Currently streaming on Stan, RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under started with 10 amazing drag performers. Throughout the season they compete for the coveted crown and the title of “Down Under’s next drag superstar”. The finale will air on Friday, December 21.
